Oklahoma State House

Al McAffrey was sworn into the Oklahoma House of Representatives on the State’s Centennial birthday, November 16th, 2006. A life-long Democrat, he campaigned on issues that touch the lives of his highly diverse inner-city district in Oklahoma City where he has lived, worked, and raised children for four decades.
In the State House, Al has fought for better access to affordable health care, improvements in education for our public schools, and a more compassionate state approach to care for senior citizens. He has been a strong advocate in supporting and protecting his district’s public safety, economic development, public transportation, and its thriving arts community. Above all, Al has kept his campaign promises of honesty, fairness, and hard work.

The son of a Baptist minister, Al grew up in Sulphur, Oklahoma. The values he learned as a child taught him the importance of public service. After high school, Al enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served as a Navy Corpsman. When he came back to Oklahoma, Al joined the Oklahoma City Police Department and later went on to own and operate several successful small businesses. Al currently owns and operates OK Cremation & Mortuary Services.
Al believes in his community and spends countless hours volunteering his time for causes he believes in. He is a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral in Oklahoma City and is active in his Mesta Park Neighborhood Association. Al also serves as a voting member of the Choctaw Tribe, has been a featured speaker for Cimarron Alliance Foundation events and conferences, and is an active member of the Diversity Business Association.
Al has been a tireless advocate and supporter of AIDS awareness. He is a board member of the Regional AIDS Interfaith Network-Oklahoma (RAIN), is currently serving on the Advisory Council for the AIDS Walk in OKC and has opened his home to host many fundraisers for AIDS-related charities.

As a father of three, Al understands the importance of fighting to move Oklahoma forward - that's what he's spent his life doing. Whether on the floor of the House of Representatives, his neighborhood association, at church, or at home with his family, Al continues to fight to bring positive change to Oklahoma.
