McAffrey Announces Bid for State Senate
Oklahoma City, OK – State Representative Al McAffrey announced today that he is running to represent Senate District 46 in the Oklahoma State Senate. The diverse, inner-city district is currently represented by State Senator Andrew Rice who has announced he would step down. A special election will be held to fill the vacancy.
“I’m going to miss working with Andrew,” McAffrey said. “We’ve been a great team and accomplished a lot for the people of our districts, but the work is not done and the fight is not over. I’m ready to take my common-sense approach to the State Senate and continue working to move Oklahoma forward.”
McAffrey was first elected to the State House of Representatives in 2006 and has been a champion of strengthening small businesses, expanding access to affordable health care, improving our public schools and protecting seniors.
“I believe in Oklahoma,” McAffrey said. “It’s where I was born and raised and where I came home to when I got out of the Navy. It’s where I raised my daughters and built a successful small business. It’s why I ran for State Representative. And now it’s why I’m running for State Senate.”
The son of a Baptist minister, Al grew up in Sulphur where he learned the Oklahoma values of honesty, fairness, and hard work. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served as a Navy Corpsman. Al returned to Oklahoma and joined the Oklahoma City Police Department and went on to own and operate several successful small businesses. He currently owns and operates OK Cremation & Mortuary Services in Oklahoma City.
